Basil (Ocimum basilicum) is an annual culinary herb of the family Lamiaceae (mints). Basil is originally native to India, having been cultivated there for more than 5,000 years. It is now grown worldwide. The leaves may taste somewhat like anise, with a strong, pungent, often sweet aroma. Best known as a culinary herb, basil is prominently featured in Italian cuisine, and also plays a role in Southeast Asian cooking.

How to Use:
In general basil should be added at the last moment ? to maintain the maximum flavour. It can be used in herb rubs for meats, or added to soups and sauces for added depth. Commonly found in Italian recipes including tomato-based pasta sauces, bean soup and herb roasted chicken. Basil can even be used in sweets such as ice-creams, and chocolate cake!
Store in an air tight container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
