Ras El Hanout is a rich and pungent spice blend that adds wonderful flavour to sweet or savoury recipes. It is a warming, earthy blend of aromatic chilli, nutmeg, coriander, cumin, and turmeric. The name of this traditional North African mix, which is thought to have originated in Morocco, translates to ‘head of the shop’ denoting that the best of the store’s spices were used. This delicious locally blended seasoning does not contain any artificial colours or flavour enhancers.

How to Use

In savoury dishes, this Ras El Hanout blend is irresistible as a spice rub or marinade for fish, tofu, vegetables or meat. Use it when barbequing or sprinkle over veggies before roasting. Dust grilled tomatoes or hot buttered corn with Ras El Hanout before serving for a taste sensation. A delicious ingredient to add to soups, tagines and hotpots. It goes wonderfully with dried fruits like apricots, dates, raisins or figs and nuts like pistachios, hazelnuts and almonds. Combine a teaspoon or two of this spice mix with two tablespoons of olive oil, the juice of a lemon, and a cup of tahini or yoghurt for a wonderful dip or accompaniment. The warm flavours of this blend are also fabulous in desserts. Irresistible in spiced apple cake, date & nut loaves, ginger cookies, sticky puddings or custard. The flavours of this spice marry beautifully with rose water, chocolate, lemon zest or orange syrup.
